Promerits, a leading company in online higher education, offers among its teachings in the field of Psychology, the “University course of specialization in PSYCHOTHERAPY INTERVENTION IN GENDER VIOLENCE”, addressing the key and basic aspects of psychotherapy.

It contains a teaching load of 7 ECTS (University Credits) that represent 175 hours of training.

This course is accredited by the European University Miguel de Cervantes (UEMC) together with PROMERITS and the Spanish Association for the Promotion and Development of Psychotherapy (AEFDP).

In recent years, efforts have increased to combat a structural and social problem such as gender violence, which represents one of the main global threats. It is, therefore, a challenge that requires specialized economic, technical and human resources. As psychology professionals, our intervention is aimed at promoting the health and well-being of the people we work with, fostering favorable attitudes to develop free and egalitarian relationships, and repairing psychological damage in people who have been victims of abuse.

Psychologists play a fundamental role in raising awareness and preventing gender-based violence, but also in victim care. And, in order to treat, it is necessary to recognize that the true impact of abuse goes far beyond the number of fatal victims, which makes it essential to know how to understand, name and repair the psychological sequelae it generates. These after-effects often last a lifetime if there is no adequate treatment, since violence generates a trauma, which breaks and destroys the lives of the victims.

Therefore, in this course, we will focus on providing students with tools that will enable them to perform their duties in an ethical and professional manner. We will learn about the causes of gender violence, the risk and protection factors of victims and aggressors, as well as the variables that contribute to a person being immersed in a relationship of this type.

We will also learn how to detect early the indicators that can alert us that an adolescent is immersed in a relationship of this type. We will know which are the protocols of comprehensive care for victims, deepening in the different techniques of psychotherapeutic intervention at individual and group level. We will make special emphasison the consequences for minors, considered since 2015 as direct victims of violence against their mothers.

And, of course, we cannot leave out of this equation another fundamental factor such as the aggressors. For this reason, we will learn about this type of profiles, their personality characteristics, abuse strategies and the most relevant intervention protocols.

In short, students will be prepared to begin their professional career in the field of gender violence in any of its facets, knowing the protocols, resources and techniques used by the most experienced professionals in the sector.

At the end of the course, you will be able to apply for three Certificates/Diplomas, accredited by the European University Miguel de Cervantes (UEMC), Promerits and the Spanish Association for the Promotion and Development of Psychotherapy (AEFDP).
